Sometimes, deadlines are the only way to go. During the last part of the summer, I was able to be a part of an intense writing workshop. This was something that came as a direct result of an earlier workshop.
In 2008, I was given the opportunity to join sixteen other people in attending Orson Scott Card’s Bootcamp for Writers in San Diego. We decided as a group to “get together” on-line and run our own workshop. Each of us was a guest “speaker,” presenting an essay on one aspect of writing. Then we also wrote stories. This was followed by feedback from the other writers.
Like I told them, I learned more about writing during this workshop than I did during a whole semester of Creative Writing at UCCS. I also got a lot done.
For me, the final result was one essay and three short stories.

Story is all about character and it is the intense characters who result in the best stories.

STORY: “Colorful, Shiny Things”
A young man finds himself assisting two young female travelers during a train ride through Germany.
STORY: “A Stone Dreams of Water”
During a key battle in the ruins of Mars, a soldier becomes concerned that the rest of his battalion is going insane.
