WRITING: "Cold and Hungry" Published

A story of mine called "Cold and Hungry" has been published in an anthology called GRUFF VARIATIONS. This is part of a program called "Writing for Charity." The profits go toward providing books for an orphanage in Cambodia. The premise is that all of the stories are based on the tale of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Mine is set in Denver and involves a young boy trying to survive an encounter with a creature in the aftermath of some kind of nameless apocalypse. Erik Peterson, a writer-friend of mine told me about the opportunity and put in a good word for me. The book is available on Amazon.
One reviewer described my story as follows:
"The story of three boys being hunted by an alien in a devastated city. Weird. Weird, weird, weird. I had to reread it when I was done, because everything I thought I knew was wrong. (And that's a good thing!)"

What advice could you give to someone who is trying to get published?
